Great renovation work

The fort of Veliki Tabor is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of secular architecture in continental Croatia, with a unique monumental and authentic fortification structure. Situated at the top of Mount Hum Kosnicki, at 333 meters above sea level, it has dominated the Zagorje area for over half a millennium, during which time the architecture has blended in with nature. The impressive view from Veliki Tabor stretches over the entire Hrvatsko Zagorje area and part of Slovenia. This zero-category monument is one of the most recognizable identities of not only Hrvatsko Zagorje but of Croatia as a whole.

    Completely restored castle.
15km north of Tito's Residency Kumrovec, we spotted this beautiful castle with 4 curving towers in bright white with red tile roof. Built in 1502 with a recent 16 year renovation, its perfect sitting alone on the hill. Views of the wooded countryside speckled with house side vineyards, a nice spot for the ruling Count of Celje.

Visit only if being nearby, as there the visit can be completed in 30 minutes tops
The castle was nicely restored and the project took quite some time (roughly from 1995 to 2011), but apart from interior and exterior restoration, there is a very small amount of exhibits worth seeing and the overall impression is that this is barely worth visiting once. Apart from the torture room (which was a good laugh if nothing else), there is an overwhelming amount of empty space and lonely pieces of furniture which are not even labeled. Compared to the castle Trakoscan, this is hardly worth your visit unless you happen to be nearby.
