Dolac Market, Central Croatia, Croatia

4.0 (671 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #21 in Zagreb Farmers Markets

Fresh produce market

Right in the center of Zagreb, a few steps away from the cathedral and the main square – Trg bana Josipa Jelačića, you will find the local farmers’ market – Dolac. This is the best place to buy fresh food from the local producers and even if the prices might be a bit higher it is still worth paying extra for the quality of the products. The Dolac market has been part of the city’s scenery since 1930 and over the year it has become the major trading point in Zagreb where farmers from the surrounding villages came to sell their products. In the upper, open-air part you can find fruits, vegetables or flowers and in the lower one, there’s meat, fish, or dairy products.

Perfect place to buy fruit and veggies
We first came across the market as part of one of the free walking tours we took around the city. However we liked the look of it so much we decided to return to take a better look around. And I'm glad we did! After a baking hot day we went looking amongst the stalls for something refreshing, and was not disappointed but the amount of choice and great value for money. We ended up with a large bag of fresh peaches for only 5kuna, and they were stunning! Some of the best peaches we have ever had, full of flavour and juicy. I would 100% recommend here for any of your greengrocer wants.

    I wouldn't miss it
The central square of the Old City has this wonderful market. With the mass of red umbrellas, it calls to the visitor. Just walking through puts a smile on your face. We saw lots of fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and other produce. There are vendors that sell crafts and local home made items. We wandered through and picked up enough goodies at reasonable prices to have lunch at the cathedral fountain just around the corner. By the way, they also have very nice restrooms. Surrounding the market are some local bakeries where you can get a drink or roll to round off your lunch. A market is always the best way to know local people.
