    A hidden gem in Barcelona
We found Placa Reial by coincidence when we were looking for our booked restaurant near the square. Plaça Reial is located at one of the side streets of La Rambla. Despite it's not big, it is a majestic and relaxing square which its 4-sides are surrounded by traditional Spanish noble buildings with elegant porticoes and terracotta decorations. Within the square, it has a beautiful fountain, lampposts designed by Gaudi and a number of tall and beautiful tropical palm trees. Plaça Reialis also one of the most famous nightlife hubs for many locals as it hosts many lovely top restaurants, bars and outdoor venues. In my opinion, it's a MUST VISIT square when you're near La Ramba, I absolutely love it.

A RELAXING OASIS BUT ONLY IN THE DAYTIME
When you get tired of the hustle and bustle and the crowds of La Rambla, and trust me you will eventually, you begin to look for a place to relax and regroup for a short time. Fortunately, one such place exists just off this iconic Barcelona Street, Placa Reial. Placa Reial, or Royal Plaza is square off of La Rambla and part of the Gothic Quarter. It was designed by built in the 19th Century on the site of the demolished Capuchin Convent. The main attraction in the square, aside from the building facades and stately palm trees is the Fountain of the Three Graces. For those interested, Gaudi whose work can be found all over the city is evident here also. The distinctive Lampposts were designed by him. Surrounding the square are numerous restaurants and cafes where one can grab a refreshing drink or more. Some are nestled under the massive arches of the surrounding buildings providing ample shade from the sun. Others make liberal use of umbrellas for this purpose. Final word of warning though. For those who came in here to escape the crowds of La Rambla and enjoy a relaxing drink, you had best leave before night falls. Placa Reial is home to some of Barcelona’s most popular nightclubs and after the sun goes down the area is known for its party atmosphere.
