not to miss

The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself, at first principally with works from his own private collection, with a desire to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research, and to disseminate the collection. The Fundació opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic centre in which Joan Miró's work coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. The Fundació is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which the complicity between artist and architect underpins the dialogue between the works and the space that houses them. The Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró's art and life, creating an enriching dialogue with other artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.

    Great experience
We really enjoyed our visit at the Fundacio Miro. The museum was very visitor-friendly, very well laid out, with explanations in four languages and very easy to navigate. The building itself was at a great spot, quiet and with lovely views over the city. I felt that we kind of got away from hectic sight seeing and noise for a bit and just took in the art at a relaxed pace. Our teens loved it too. I think Miro's art may be more approachable for teens. Can easily be combined with MNAC if you have the time - we didn't unfortunately.

    Miró Experience.Good and Bad.
We looked around the pictures by Joan Miro, shopped at both shops and had an excellent lunch in the restaurant. All good so far. However, as we left and still on museum property, we hailed a taxi but we were immediately sprayed with bird poo by pickpockets. They urged us into a nearby area and wiped us down with tissues. We thought this a kind gesture but after returning to our hotel we realised we had been robbed. This spoiled the whole trip. It would be a good idea to increase security in the museum’s grounds. Even warning signs would help.
