VEry interesting archeological site

Tiermes is an archeological site located in Soria Province, in Castilla y León Region, in the center of Spain. Firstly, it was a Celtiberian town and after, a Roman town. Also, the city existed until the Muslim Era, when this place was abandoned. Nowadays it is possible to visit the ruins of the place, which has a very characeteristic red colour. In fact , you can see some quarries from where a lot of minerals were extracted, some houses and other important places. Also, you can see Santa Maria de Tiermes Church. It is located on land, so you can see very nice views of the surroundings, specially from a high place located in ruins. Very interesting visit for archeological-lovers. In fact, not so far from here, you can also see Uxama Ruins, close to EL Burgo de Osma. (see also Uxama Ruins and Atalaya de Uxama)

Ancient city, medieval church, vultures, sheep.
We have found this place accidentally traveling across Spain. It was on Monday so museum has been closed. Fortunately ruins of the city were still accessible. Site inhibited since Celtiberian’s times. Its peak achieved in Roman times. Fantastic example of the ancient ingenuity. As a bonus we have seen beautiful church Santa Maria de Tiermes. Unfortunately closed, but still worth to see. Columns heads absolutely outstanding. During our visit heard of sheep appeared in the valley. Like in ancient times I suppose. And vultures circulating over our heads….

    Roman ruins and Vultures
We had a fantastic tour here while we visited the area of Ayllon. Our tour guide was fantastic and she spend close to double the time of a normal tour with us. The area itself is spectacular the views are amazing. The ruins themselves are very impressive as the are both manmade and also built into the rock/cliffs. There were also lots of buitres (Vultures) circling overhead which were very impressive to see. Well worth a visit if you are in the area a guided tour is €5 but you are welcome to just walk around at your own pace if you want.
