Meander through the narrow streets of Rocky Neck
Finding a place to park may be more difficult than finding photo ops in this artist colony! This is especially true in the summer. Many of Gloucester more famous artists made their gallery and home in Rocky Neck. It can be "crusty"! It can be funky! So, take time to meander the narrow streets, boat yard and wharf area to step into the old-time gallery world of artists like Gruppe, Hibbard and many more. Talk with the gallery staff and put yourself in the artists' perspective. We spent a day wandering and had lunch at a one of the restaurants at the beginning of Rocky Neck. I suggest firing a place to park, leave your car and just start walking around.

    Has more potential!
I feel about Rocky Neck in my hometown Gloucester the same as I do about Pickering Wharf in Salem, MA: Gorgeous area, lovely ocean views, good restaurants, lots of potential to make it a really happening place...but somehow both fall flat. Rocky Neck is beautiful! What it needs are more boutique type shops, cool cafes, and then more advertisement to bring people there for strolls and shopping. Every time I've been to Rocky Neck it is kind of quiet, blah, and many places close early or look like they weren't open at all for most of the day. And this is during the summer season!
