Charming

Visited Main St yesterday! It was cold and windy, but we had a great time! The best thing about THIS Main St is that the majority of the stores are actually open even in winter, unlike many of the other nearby towns. Lots of charming little shops that would appeal to any interest! And the BEST little Italian bakery!!!! Will definitely be visiting again soon!

    Better Than Ever
I have lived in Gloucester and shopped on Main Street for over 50 years. It's never been more exciting than than it is now in April, 2017. Beautiful gift shops and restaurants abound. You could browse the day away and not see it all, from the East end with its small cozy restaurants ,flower shop, and liquor store to the West end with gifts, olive oil, a gourmet pizza shop, bakeries and a high end Italian restaurant in the historic Blackburn building. Throw in the Sargent-Murray House, which actually fronts on Middle Street, but has an open view from Main. Recently, Main Street, Gloucester has been discovered by tourists including people from cruise ships that dock in the outer harbor and rediscovered by residents in this charming, friendly city.. Come visit!!

    A Little Dissapointed
My wife and I went on a small vacation to Gloucester recently with a desire of taking in the flavor of this small seaport town. We loved the town and the many different things you can do there; however, we were a little disappointed with their main street. We honestly thought there would be more specialty shops to browse geared towards their seaport history and scenic coastline. As we browsed Main Street looking for novelty items and clothing we were both surprised at the lack of these type items. We were mainly looking for a couple of nice Gloucester themed sweatshirts to wear on our whale watch trip, but couldn't find anything worth buying. We ended up driving to Rockport where the town offers more selections of this nature. If you're a local I'm sure Main Street is perfect for your needs, but as far as tourism goes there's not much there. The one bright spot we found on Main Street was Virgilio's Deli which has the best deli sandwiches in the area. We would definitely go back there for another sandwich if ever in the area. Gloucester is a fun town for a lot of things, but if you're looking for some seaport themed novelties items or clothing you might try Rockport first.
