Trummelbach Falls, Canton of Bern, Switzerland

4.5 (2.092 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #4 in Canton of Bern Waterfalls

Stunning and unique. If you can cope with heights and stairs then do it!

We walked up from Lauterbrunnen on a hot day. You start off with a lift to get you part way up then staircases lead you from one amazing cascade to the next. They are high up, but even with my fear of heights I managed most of it, and it was very worthwhile. The sound is deafening, the cascades stunning, And the glacial spray very refreshing. Some people went with rain jackets but it’s really is just a light mist - not worth packing extra layers for!

An easy side trip that exceeded expectations
After going up to Schilthorn, we decided to take a different route down through Grimmelwald and take the bus back to Lauterbrunnen. We stopped on the way back to do Trummelback Falls and ended up really enjoying the experience. Price point wise it's not that high and it's a very unique waterfall to experience, being partially underground. It can get cold inside so I would bring a jacket and the ground does get wet so shoes with traction are a help. Overall it took us about an hour to complete with several stops for photos. Would definitely recommend.

    The breathtaking Trummelbachfalle
The Trummelbachfalle is considered one of the most amazing waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen area, and it does truly live up to its name. It has amazing picture opportunities inside the Falls, and outside. Your ticket allows you to see the waterfall from 10 different points (you will have to climb), or you can take a free lift up to a higher vantage point and walk down (some points you need to climb further). From the Lauterbrunnen Bahnhof Bus Station (near to the Grütschalp Cable Car that leads to Murren BLM train station), take Bus 141 to the Trummelbachfalle Bus Stop. Take note of the bus timings as this bus can get extremely crowded; even during the September off-peak when I went, I was squashed like sardines on my return trip to Lauterbrunnen. <> You can't book any tickets online (I have tried) and only from the entrance counter. Each ticket costs 14 CHF for an adult. You will need to wait in line and there is only one ticket counter / entry point. I would say this is an amazing site, a force of nature. However, there are also other falls in the region which are free (although you can't go so close to them). So if you are okay to view from afar, and/or have concerns about waiting time or spending the entry fee, you could consider skipping this. Although, if you are willing to wait and spend the entry fee, the Trummelbachfalle does live up to its name. <> I also observed Tour Group Leaders going forward to purchase at the counter located at the entrance to the Falls. So if your Tour Group says you can visit this site, you might want to clarify if your tour package includes the visit *into* the Falls (i.e. they somehow got the tickets already) or if entry must be paid separately (i.e. on the spot they ask who wants and you fork out your money there).
