Beautiful Hike
We took the cable car up to First, and when we first arrived, there was a lot of cloud cover. We had glimpses of blue skies, but then the clouds would move in. The weather forecast said the skies were to clear, so killed some time having a hot drink and did the First Flyer. As we waited in line for our turn, the clouds finally started to move on so we were able to set out on the hike to the lake. We had hoped to set out a little earlier to avoid some of the crowds (we went early in the morning), but it was worth waiting for clear skies. It is a wide pathway out to the lake, but there are quite a few ups and downs and not quite as "easy" as many review say - it definitely got the heart pumping! Arriving at the lake, the views were just stunning. There was a bit of wind so we didn't get the perfect reflections in the lake, but it was still beautiful. It was very busy, but there is lots of space to spread out and enjoy a picnic lunch and relax. Since the clouds were continually clearing throughout the day, the views on the walk back were even more stunning because we could see the mountains and valley below even more clearly. This was one of the first activities we did on our trip to the alps, and it was fantastic!

Classic hike in the Bernese Obeland
This hike is accessible from the Grindelwald First gondola, which leaves from near the center of Grindelwald. The hike begins on a rather steep path, which later becomes more gradual or level. It is a busy trail, so expect to see plenty of other hikers. There is a great view of the lake and the surrounding mountains once you arrive. Be prepared to see cattle on the surrounding pastures, as well!
