Cascada de los Colores, Barranco de las Angustias, Canary Islands, Spain

Stunning scenery

We did this walk from the Barranco de Angustias parking area. We followed the waymarks to the cascada, which does include a lot of up and down hill climbing. The waterfall was slightly smaller than we expected but we were glad we saw it. The route and scenery along the way is stunning. The water was a little wide and a bit daunting to cross at Dos Aguas due to a lot of rain a couple of days before and we ended up with very wet feet for the walk back to the carpark - we mostly followed the river bed on the way back. The whole walk (including stopping for some lunch) took about 5 hours.

Stunning! But follow the stream, not the signs!
La Catarata De Colores: 4hours - 14km long, at 300m altitude. Stunning canyoning (and a bit of bouldering if you want to) through Barranco De Las Angustias surrounded by 1000m walls to reach a colourful waterfall. This is a great way to see the inside of the Caldera De Taburiente as you would walk all through the Baranco de las Angustias, doing some canyoning. Ignore the signs and start from the beginning through the stream. It will get to a point that tells you again to not follow the stream. Ignore it. If you continue, you should find a narrow canyon almost full with water and a small waterfall underneath (second waterfall you must have come across) a rock bridge. If you look on the right hand side, there is a rock that is calling for some bouldering! It is fairly easy to climb, then on top of that there is a second one. If someone is waiting for you at the bottom, they can take a pic of you on top/next to the stone bridge. I have seen a 60yo not-looking-very-fit man do it. It is less challenging than it seems. If you don't feel fit for this, this is the time to follow the trek path. Just continue the stream, always! Eventually you will reach a man-made stone bridge and wall with a 2 metres waterfall. Climb to your left and then continue the stream. You will eventually get to a house that says Hip Hop Yo. You can continue the stream by climbing the house on the right hand side if you fancy doing some bouldering. This is the most difficult part (not going up but down) so I don't recommend doing it unless you have experience. You can use the normal path on the left which would actually be quicker. After a bit, you will start seeing the yellow stones with water flowing. Walk a bit longer and you will encounter this beautiful waterfall.

    Follow the river bed
The signs make you go up and down on a rather unnecessary detour, and always rejoins the river bed. I guess the river must be pretty big when it rains, but there wasn't much water when I was there so it was much easier to just follow the river bed which leads straight to the falls. There's one place where you will encounter a big wall, but you can climb it from the left side and go across the thing that looks like a bridge. You can also climb up from the right side (which is what we did), but it's much harder. Or you can just backtrack about 200m and take the normal path. There's another place by a small waterfall which you can pass by climbing up 1 or 2 metres along the rocks on the right-hand side (a bit slippery though). The falls itself doesn't have much water, but the colors make it the most interesting sight in the park.
