Great garden, well labelled, needs some refreshments

We always visit Botanic Gardens at the places we visit. Some disappoint, some delight. This one was in the delightful category. It is set out as a formal garden with rectangular beds around a central pond and fountain. The plants are well cared for and each is labelled. Some of them were planted in the 18th century and are by now huge. Others are up to date modern cultivars, for example some very big variegated Monsteras. I was particularly impressed with the tree ferns, varied selection and very large. The entrance fee of three euros and reductions for kids, students and pensioners is super value. I only wish there had been a small kiosk selling drinks and ice cream etc.

Pleasant way to spend a few hours
We visited here on an overcast day so that it would be cooler and we could enjoy the walk through the gardens, although it does offer lots of shade. Entrance fee is €6 each and you get a little map telling you about each section and the plants in it, but there are QR codes along the way to help you get more information about certain trees and plants. There is plenty to look at and if you are into your gardening and photography you can spend quite a lot of time here. Don't worry there are a few benches so you can just sit down and just enjoy the view and the peace and quiet. We did see a few people with picnics which we thought was a great idea. Just in case you need them there are public toilets available.

    Pleasant, informative
Nice little trip out for a couple of hours. The water garden is a very calming place to sit and rest your legs. Great value at 3 euros entry, and the little train take you up the hill free if you don't want to walk. Service bus also just around corner from entrance. We visited both this and the Orchid gardens and to be honest preferred the Orchid Gardens, but still a pleasant experience.
