Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Río Camuy, Camuy, Puerto Rico

4.0 (1.039 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Camuy Caverns & Caves

Beautiful experience, tour was great, no reservation needed

Tour some of the caves and sinkholes within this 268-acre park as you spot bats flying by and spiders crawling up and down the walls. Over 10 miles of limestone caves and underground rivers have been mapped so far, but only a small fraction of the entire network is open to the public. Wear closed shoes and get there early to secure a spot in the tour, which lasts a little more than an hour. When you’re done touring the caves, you can get a few souvenirs at the gift shop and grab a snack from a street vendor right outside. – Tripadvisor

Worth the visit but be prepared
Don’t bother calling to make a reservation. No one ever answered the phone despite calling multiple times. We showed up and brought tickets and waited with the next group. Be advised, you need to have closed toes shoes and no sandals. Otherwise you will not be allowed in the caverns. They sold $15 water shoes for anyone who did not come prepared. Their trolly isn’t working. You have to walk 1.5-2 hours…down steep hills and back up. I had a toddler with me and a stroller and it was doable. My mother uses a walker and it was too much for her. I do not recommend it for anyone with severe walking disabilities. They drove her down to the entrance but the walkway was too slippery and wet for her. The entrance only got darker, steeper, and more slippery. The cavern is not lit and very dark. This made walking with a stroller challenging but a more legit cave experience. I recommend bringing your personal head lamp or flashlight. The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable.

A little too restrictive but amazing to see
Camuy was open for business December 2021. NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED, they will not answer the phone so don't bother. They run tours at least at 11am, 1pm, but probably more. Show up 30 minutes early, buy tickets ($18 adult, $12 kid, $9 senior). There did not seem to be a restriction on group size (we probably had 40-50 people with one guide), which slowed things down considerably, plus people for some reason brought screaming babies into a large echo chamber (!?!!). There is a UTV for people that need help getting down, but it should just be for very old or handicapped - plan on walking down about a kilometer (and back up when you are done!). The place is amazing to see, huge cave system though you only walk through a couple large chambers on a concrete pathway. It could get slippery if wet but there are handrails. Saw some awesome spiders!
