Fabulous piece of sculpture!

Built in the late 1500s, this gem of Italian artistic heritage was greatly influenced by the famous Raimondo de Sangro VII, Prince of Sansevero, a genius of science and invention.

Buy your tickets online: it´s a must
My husband and I had found no lines, no crowds during our January trip to South Italy; not even in Pompeii or Napole Soterranea. But the Saturday afternoon we were looking for San Severo tickets, they were sold out. So we bought for the next morning and arrived on time. Visitors enter in groups, every 15 minutes; pictures are not allowed, otherwise, I would’ve taken hundreds. Take a first glance to admire the whole view, bur then focus on every altar, every statue; this baroque chapel is packed with beautiful works of art, impossible to foresee in such a simple exterior. The Shrouded Christ is the star, of course, but Modesty, the Veiled Lady, and Desilussion, the man freeing from a net are equally fabulous. Can beauty be excessive? On the way out, puzzle at the “anatomy machines”, two corpses showing full skeleton and circulatory system, with all veins and veasels. Exiting through the store, I took the chance to buy a book, to compensate the lack of pictures.

    Really Enjoyable visit
The veiled Christ sculpture and the small chapel is a must see if in Naples. There is a audio guide which you can purchase (€3.50) which gives loads of information and I would recommend getting it. It lasts just under 25 minutes and is about the right amount of time you need to spend here. Make sure to book your tickets in advance ideally a couple of days before you plan on visiting as it books out.
