Fogg Continues to Impress

We spent 4 hours at the Fogg Art Museum on the Harvard Campus and were very impressed with the galleries and holdings. Reservations are necessary; we made ours standing at the museum check-in desk. The Fogg holdings also included those from the Sackler and Busch-Reisinger, so it was not necessary to walk to other nearby buildings. Only disappointment was that the cafe was not open, so plan your refreshments in advance. Overall, our experience was very enjoyable.

A Gem of an Art Museum
The Fogg recently underwent an extensive renewal, and what came out was a magnificently lighted and curated museum. There is tremendous care in installations, which change regularly. There are also lectures and special exhibits which are almost always exceptionally rewarding. While there are other excellent museums in Boston, this one must not be missed.

    Oh my heavens wonderful!
The museum is not too far from the subway. I started in the splendid Wertheimer Collection - domestic-scaled pictures by Picasso, Matisse and other greats. The quality was superb. The layout of the museum is easy to negotiate, unlike the clumsy and confusing arrangement at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The museum has special strength in 20th century German art. There’s a good Jackson Pollock, an excellent Morris Louis, and quite a lot of David Smith, who I think of as the greatest American sculptor. There’s a small but very good cafe. I loved their beet salad. Don’t miss this outstanding museum!
