Temescal Regional Recreation Area, California, United States

4.5 (36 reviews) Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent Ranking #36 in Oakland Nature & Wildlife Areas

Fav everyday spot to walk

We are frequent here and for a reason) 2 playgrounds, a walking/running path, manicured lawns, ample picnic spots, birdwatching (and you need no spyglass to see them), the beautiful lake with swimming area, fishing, clean restrooms with warm water, and the list is not full yet) The park is not large and rarely crowded. The West side parking lot can be packed sometimes, let's say on sunny weekends, but East side parking is huge and never gets full, even on the busiest BBQ Sundays) Enjoy!

Swim on a Hot Day or Just Stroll and Picnic on a Cool One.
I go to Temescal often and just walk around the small lake with my dog. People come here to picnic and fish. It's a low-key getaway very close to Oakland, particularly the Rockridge neighborhood. The lake takes about 30 minutes to walk around and is smaller than Lake Merritt but has a more woodsy vibe. There is a charge to park but oftentimes during non-peak hours, the ticket taker is not in his/her booth.

    In Our Neighborhood
This regional park is a real gem for hikers, picnickers and sun bathers. It used to be a good place to swim but the lake is too often closed because of algae. Still a lovely spot very close to the built-up city.
