Beautiful scenery

The Point Arena Lighthouse stands as an iconic figure on the American Pacific Coast. Sometimes brilliantly sunny, other times fog-shrouded and mysterious, always ruggedly beautiful, the Lighthouse is a place to find something different, a place where the romance is real and the experience is profound. Surrounded by water on three sides, and shouldered adjacent to the Point Arena/Stornetta Public Lands, the Point Arena Lighthouse is the premier visitor destination in Mendocino County. Climb to the top of the tallest Lighthouse on the Pacific coast, visit the Light Station Store, Indoor Museum and Outdoor Museum and celebrate our 152nd year! It is also one of the best whale watching spots on the North Coast, with the annual Gray Whale migration from late November through May, Humpbacks throughout the year, the occasional pod of transient Killer Whales and even Blue Whales. Watch for the spouts, tails and breaches from the trails and gazebo. Tower Tours daily!

    Awe inspiring views!
Point Arena Lighthouse is the point on the U.S. mainland that's closest to Hawaii. Point Arena Lighthouse has a few housing units you can rent for overnight stay from their website. Weather is beautiful year round, although summer can be foggy. Best time to visit is September and October. Although the lighthouse is closed due to Covid-19, the museum is still open and the views are spectacular. You can see harbor seals and whales. There are hiking trails that are very scenic close to the lighthouse, and sunset is awe inspiring. Manchester is a neighboring town, just north of Point Arena. From Manchester runs an under sea fiber cable to Japan, built in 1956 by AT&T.

    Amazing experience and people
Everyone from the museum to the gift shop to the vacation rental team strives to make your experience a memorable one. Special shout-out to Mark Hancock the Executive Director who made our stay and visit extra memorable. So much so that we decided to (without any prompting) sign up for a lifetime membership in support of this important piece of American history and the amazing people who work to keep it alive. You should too if you visit!
