Great views from the boardwalk!
The trail/boardwalk is a bit hard to find, but easiest is to park near the Bayside Cafe and walk down to the trail head. Follow the dirt trail loop (.7 ml) and it becomes a wonderful wooden boardwalk with great views of the estuary. Bring binoculars to see wonderful birdlife. I saw about 30 white herons standing out in the bay. Very peaceful. The Museum of Natural History is worth a visit, and they have a nice gift shop.

So intense even by California standards!
California is known for picturesque beaches, sea life, rocks, charming beach towns - but here you get everything packed in a small place. One of places where you can see cute otters close, dramatic Morro rock, surf waves crashing into jetty and a small town with a complicated history. One catch - it might be windy, bring layers.
