Lake Isabella, California, United States

3.5 (54 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Wofford Heights Bodies of Water

Large Lake with many day use and camping sites on its bank.

Lake Isabella is a US Army Corp or Engineers controlled dam. The lake has so much to offer. There are many boat ramps are various locations on the lake and many shore side campgrounds controlled by the National Park Service. There are also some private campgrounds across the highway with views of the lake. The sunrise on the lake is beautiful.

Beautiful lake near the Sequoia Mountains
Lake Isabella is a beautiful lake in Wofford Heights, a little town an hour north of Bakersfield. It's being fed by the mighty Kern River. We were there in June 2019 when the water was high. There is no fee to access the lake and there are beaches which are good spot for swimming during our stay. The only thing I didn't like is the drive from Bakersfield through the canyon. The canyon is narrow and winding so it's a slow drive but the drivers are rude and will honk at you if you're too slow for them. There are lots of turn-outs but some can't even wait till you get there to let them pass.

    Nice place to visit
nice place to visit. gorgeous ride to Bakersfield, but this is a slow ride as the path keeps turning within the canyons and river.
