a place to get away and relax
I have been coming here for nearly 40 years; first with my father, then I brought my children, with the grandson, and by myself or with a buddy. It makes for a peaceful day to hang out and fish, even if you don't catch anything. Usually I/we do catch some fish, but if the weather turns (especially the wind) then you most likely will be out of luck. Generally, except for weekends maybe, there is not a lot of (fishing) pressure on this lake, which makes it more enjoyable as well. They have cabins, a couple of condos and manufactured homes you can rent. They are a little pricey, but worth it if you want to spend a couple days up here getting away from the rat race. They do have camping, but I'll leave that for the younger crowds and families at this stage of my life. Check out their website for details. There is a fee to park on site, as well as fishing permits. If you buy a fishing permit the parking fee is waived. Over the past few years they crew here has sunk a lot of monies into upgrading the property, restrooms, etc. I think this place makes for a great road trip if you just want to relax.

    Camping at Lake Cuyamaca
We camped at Lone Pine.. great camp site next to the lake, very picturesque and lots of places to sit next to the lake (many other folks fishing there but can spread out well). Good clean bathroom. The only downside was that it was noisy at night because you can hear other campers talking, and cars passing on the road. Plus, it got really windy the 2nd day. The sunrise was stunning rising above the lake and it's very close to Julian and Laguna mountain.
