Absolutely Gorgeous Scenery

With photo opportunities at every turn, this idyllic bay in Lake Tahoe is a must-see. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, Emerald Bay State Park is known for its large granite peaks and hiking trails. The best way to soak in the awe-inspiring landscapes is along the Eagle Falls Vista Point Loop or Rubicon Trail. Be sure to tour the Vikingsholm Castle in the summer months—this landmark boasts fine Scandinavian architecture and has an interesting history. Those who prefer jumping into the cool waters can go kayaking or scuba diving too. Parking at Emerald Bay is limited, so arrive early to snag a spot. – Tripadvisor

    Heaven on Earth
Emerald Bay is one of the most picturesque locales in the region. Located in Southwest Lake Tahoe. The park is a great place to hike and picnic. You can also enjoy boating, swimming and kayaking; or just relax in nature. The Vikingsholm mansion is a nice historical stop. For a small fee you can take a tour (highly recommended). Near Vikingsholm you can rent a kayak (single - $25 for 1 hour or $35 for 2 hours) to get to the island. Or if you have your own boat you can get there. The island is currently named Fannette Island but has also been referred to as Hermit island after an interesting local caretaker, Richard Barter or Captain Dick, that roamed the area in the 1800s. During the 1920s, Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight had Vikingsholm built, as well as the Tea House on Fannette Island. During the summer months, she would take guests to the island for high tea. It is an enjoyable little kayak excursion to the island. Not a lot to do there, except hike up to the Tea House and take some photos. The MS Dixie is a large paddle boat that takes tours around Lake Tahoe, as well as Emerald Bay. Be aware access to the island is restricted February through part of June to protect the breeding habitat of migrating geese.

    Stunning View Inspiration Lookout
No expectations prepared us for the view from this unbelievable overlook! There was no other place as amazing during our trip to Napa and Lake Tahoe. This was #1 in terms of beauty and nature. DO NOT MISS IT!!!! You do need to know that the drive up is scary; hairpin turns and no guard rails but that's the price for this great view. Also, you must pay to park; there is a slot and envelopes for your money and license number, the stub goes on your dash and the envelope goes in the slot. It was all of $5 (take a few small bills as people were trying to get others to break bigger bills); the money goes to maintain the area. Back to the view...simply unforgettable!!!!
