No restrooms but great shops!

Big bear lake is beautiful and Idyllic town, however bathrooms can be very scarce. No one really offers Public restrooms so it is something that you should keep in mind. Also this was a last minute trip so I prepared to pay a lot for a hotel and lodging. But in general this is a place you want to book early because it does fill up very quickly especially in the winter time and especially around holidays. To give you an example of what the prices were ranging in December 2021 I paid $800 for a Motel six. That was for two nights well other hotels were averaging $3000 for two nights. Amazing little local shops are great including the fact that they have a lot of tire repair facilities around because my tire pressure was low coming up from Chula Vista where the temperature was much warmer.

Another wonderful week at Big Bear!
We had a very enjoyable week at Big Bear at the end of April when BB was very quiet. We rented a delightful lakefront house by the water, which was an endless source of entertainment as we watched the white pelicans, ducks, waterfowl, a Great Blue Heron, birds, boaters, and fishermen (one in particular quickly caught his limit while others walked away empty handed). Although the lake is down (as much as 15' we were told), it's still a beautiful lake and the surrounding trees and the last bit of snow on the mountaintops and Spring blossoms made it very picturesque. We had an extremely relaxing time on the deck and in the house that had great lake views from five rooms. We also had some really excellent meals at great restaurants and enjoyed a nice drive all around the lake one afternoon. Enjoyable evenings were spent by the stone fireplace, reading. We found all service people everywhere at the lake to be friendly and helpful. There are a lot of places to hike and it's interesting to look at all the woodcarvings in front of homes and businesses and at the two businesses that sell them. Unfortunately, the Solar Observatory was closed. We didn't go to the wildlife rescue facility this time, but I can recommend it from a previous trip. The Village is full of fun shops, and we also like to drive around to look at the beautiful homes. We Southern Californians are soooo lucky to have the sea and the mountains at our doorstep.
