Great views, great setup for amateur campers, bring earplugs
I went for a 1 night camping trip here in October 2020. The Island Packers crew was great! We saw some whales on the way both to and from the island and we ended up spending around 10 minutes doing an impromptu whale watching tour! This site was great for an amateur camper like myself. The walk from the dock to the campgrounds isn't that far. Maybe a 15-20 minute walk but there are some steep stairs in the beginning. Great views around the island and if you camp here then you can see the gorgeous sunset and sunrise. The bathroom is extremely clean and well stocked. It's probably the best bathroom I've ever seen in a national park. Each campsite has its own picnic table and food storage locker. Some people went swimming in normal swimsuits (no wetsuits) but I thought it was too cold. The bad / minor annoyances: The campsites are super close to each other so it's too easy to hear other campers. Foghorn goes off every minute. It's quieter at night but it's still there, so bring earplugs. The island is pretty small. You can do a whole loop around the island in less than an hour.

    Island Packers outdoes themselves!
I had high expectations going into today after such a great trip earlier in the week to Santa Cruz. Well, needless to say, Island Packers did not disappoint! After a concerning start where we were told we might not be able to land on the island, the crew pulled through for what was an absolutely perfect day of sunshine. Once arriving on the island (the captain was awesome btw), Morgan led the majority of the travelers on a guided hike. Not being a fan of large groups (mostly because I find people talking to each other when the speaker is presenting extremely rude and it irritates me so I just choose not to participate), I started out on my own. I was fortunate enough to find Lindsay, a volunteer, leading a smaller group of people in the opposite direction. They graciously took me in and Lindsay provided outstanding knowledge and insight along the hike. We even saw a few whales along the way! Thank you, Morgan and Lindsay, for sharing your knowledge of the islands with everyone! I will say, the steps to the top are not the easiest. There are roughly 150 steps, so if you are can not do one flight of steps at home, then this is not the trip for you. Once to the top, the trails are pretty easy. They are well maintained and fairly flat. Definitely pack a lunch and plan to sit anywhere on the island for some amazing views.
