Place for isolating, meditating and purifying your mind

This meditation place is amazing about steps with roof paving through the cliff to the top. Along the walkway, there are space for strict monks to meditate, purify their minds from our real world motivation to reach nirvana. The temple vicinity isshady eith trees but on the way to the top , there is steps with wooden ladders , categorized to 7 floor according to 7 tiered buddhist heaven. Please start your day early in yhe morning , the temple opens at 8am for visitors , it’s a bit physical demanding for clombing up and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. 5th floor is best place for getting rest before heading up to 6th and 7th floor, the top is only forest without may manmade conrtuctions, and.walkway on the 6th foor is a bit narrow and altitude high defying the gravity.

    A Unique Temple Experience
This is a very interesting temple built on a mountain. It’s a steep climb to the top along rickety wood steps and walkways but it’s very much worth it. The views at the top are amazing plus you get a great workout. It’s took about 1.5 hours round trip but we were moving quickly. It can take slower people 3 hours. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

Phu Tok A Very Special Meditation Wat!
First of all, Wat Phu Tok, is not in Nong Khai Province. It is in Bueng Kan Province that split from Nong Khai. That being said, it is a free, wonderful beautiful meditation temple. One should wear longer shorts or long pants, and shirts. You can walk amid the trees at the bottom or if you are in a wheel chair. It is beautiful and quiet. You can climb to the top of the 7th level temple a number of ways. Or you can climb one to 5 levels, depending on your abilities and there are many places to sit and meditate or read. Wear tennis shoes despite the fact that Thais may be scampering up in flip flops, especially in the rainy season. If you go slowly you will see many things that the people whose objective is to get to the top and back as quick as possible do not see. You may see monkeys, snakes, birds, monks meditating, sticks holding up rocks,... You will see the beauty of the Mekong area and the amazing structure mainly of wood that you walk along. Some get a bit frightened but Ive been to the Wat many many many times with no problems. Ive taken fairly large people up and they made it too. Suggest you take water, a hat if hot, snacks, camera, a book to read or write in? It is a Buddhist temple, but it is also a place for people of all religions to admire and climb or walk. On a nearby smaller hill there is a shrine of sorts with great art work outside. It is a place for locals to remember the well known meditation monk that lived there, He was unfortunately killed in a plane accident on his way to see the Royal Family of Thailand and was and is very much respected. There is some good Thai food near by, home stays are available, and herbs for all sorts of ailments. Herbs all in Thai, sorry. If you get a chance and respect Buddhism it is great place to go for the day or two. Near by is another Phu or "mountain" you could investigate. Monks are there too. To get to Phu Tok take a tuk tuk from Sivilai or drive if possible, few if any taxis are there and visit the lake near by called Bueng Khong Long and have lunch and ride the water rides. Sanook or Fun! Enjoy the simple life of Isaan!
