Visiting the Palais

Having had the pleasure to have been invited to the Palais in the 1990s whilst Baroness Stoclet was living in this fantastic home, it is truly a unique home inside and out. With its Klimt friezes decorating the dining hall and its coral wood floored auditorium, just a couple of Inclusions of this ”Wiener Werkstatte” filled home. I recall the Baroness’ amusing comment at the time whispering to me that she was but the curator of this fascinating home. And whilst it is disappointing to most that the home is not open to the public, maybe that is a major factor why it has maintained its mystic and condition. Fascinating home and fascinating family!

Palais Stoclet, a Proto Art Deco Secret, signed Josef Hoffmann
Architecture lovers will adore the exterior. There's more than enough to see to keep you peeping through the gates and admiring the details in bronze and stone, the sculptures and the ornaments.

Stunning early 20th century modernist house (not open to the public)
The Palais Stoclet is an extraordinary early 20th century luxury home on the Avenue de Tervueren. A modernist house, it is something of an architectural link between the eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Still in private ownership and not open to the public, but the exterior is worth a look. Nearest Metro station: Montgomery (then short walk).
