All about Brunei

A tribute to the sultan and the grand trappings of Royalty, this museum is a highlight of any trip to Brunei. The main gallery presents an impressive recreation of the coronation of His Majesty The Sultan, displaying the gilded carriage which carried the newly crowned Sultann through the streets of the capital city, along with gold and silver ceremonial armour. The Royal Exhibition Gallery showcases a selection of Royal Regalia from His Majesty's childhood days up to the time of his coronation, such as jewel-encrusted crowns, thrones, garments and His Majesty's revered silver Keris (dagger). The Silver Jubilee Gallery celebrates the mark of His Majesty's 25th ruling year. Here, one can view film footage of the auspicious event, amongst other Royal Regalia that made an appearance during the occasion. Beyond bling!
Specifically built to house the chariot and associated trappings for the current Sultan's coronation and silver jubilee ceremonial processions. The scale of which would make Cecil B de Mille blush! It also houses an array of gifts donated to the Sultan from foreign and local dignitaries, the majority of which you can see why he was happy not to have around the palace. Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines seem to specialise in gifting him appalling art. As with anything in Brunei relating to the Sultan the commentary is bordering on the hagiographical, but it is nonetheless an interesting glimpse into a gilded world where taste has clearly left the building.

    A lot of history
If you are a history lover this is the place to visit. A stone through from the Raddison hotel , we spent almost 2 hrs learning all about Brunei and its ruling family. The items displayed go back to some 29 generations of the present Sultan. A lot to learn and see. The place is done up very plush and posh and looks like no expense has been spared to exhibit all there is, however on visiting the comfort rooms I found that the whole area has been totally neglected and does not meet up to the standard of what is being exhibited. The doors of the toilets are so run down that they hardly close. Water on the floor, no toilet appear, soap or hand towels. Sorry to say but really appalling to see. I hope someone will pay attention and correct this and this is meant as a positive complaint. It looks like there need to be someone checking on the hygiene of the back areas. Please don't let me put anyone off of visiting that's only one aspect of what is a beautiful place to spend few hrs.
