Dog Beach

I love Spanish River Park. You can stay away from the water and have family picnics, go birding or enjoy the beach. I went after 3 on Sunday when the dogs are allowed. Nothing is more fun than watching 100's of dogs playing with each other, jumping in the ocean or just relaxing.

    Birdwatching
This was our first visit to the area & was shocked when the Park Staff at the entrance said parking cost $25! The restroom buildings were immaculate! Birdwatching on the trails was not as productive as we hoped. We arrived at 10 a.m. equipped with binoculars, camera & beverages in our slings. The first trail we took the Boca Raton Park Maintenance had just spread mulch covering part of the 6’-14’ trail. The other trails surfaces were uneven packed dirt, tree roots etc. The dense mature tree canopy provided much needed shade & the edges of the trails had some shrubbery as well. Our total bird count for the 3hrs. we were there was 19 different birds. The most abundant were the gray catbirds, red bellied woodpeckers & blue jays. Other birds seen were the black & white warbler, palm warbler, prairie warblers, brown thrasher, ovenbird, mockingbirds, Eurasian collared doves, morning doves, grackles, northern parula, starlings, fish crows, yellow crowned night herons, pileated woodpecker, great crested flycatchers and wood thrush. In addition the trails offered an assortment of butterflies, dragonflies & lizards…all sizes. We were entertained by the bearded dragons who curled their tails up as we got near! Having traveled across the United States & visited countless parks, my suggestion would be to have numbers on the light posts so that people can remember easily where they parked their vehicle. The only numbers we saw to help you identify where you are were on one part of each pavilion.

    Great And Clean Beach
This is a very nice beach. The water is clean and the beach is also clean. The sand is a little rocky, I would not recommend running a lot on this beach. people keep the beach nice and maintained. the are surrounding it isn't dirty it is very well managed and taken care of. Spanish river park is overall a really nice place to visit with your family and I do recommend going.
