Berwyn Route 66 Museum, Illinois, United States

Very small museum, but very knowledgeable people too. Not open on the weekends, but they gave us several helpful tips and got us even more excited about traveling Route 66. Even gave us info on great local places to eat and about the nearby Oak Park area with Frank Lloyd Wright home and museum (my husband is a big fan). Some things are just meant to happen - serendipity. This is a great stop before starting your route.

Another stop on your Route 66 adventure!
I give this an average rating because frankly, it shouldn't be called a "museum" it should be called a "visitor's center" because that's what it is. The space is extremely small and has only a few pieces of Route 66 history. BUT I couldn't give it a lower score because the people working there are super nice and helpful. They have free maps for your Route 66 travels, some tips to share and there are even a few souvineres you can grab there that I hadn't seen in other locations. They're working to preserve some of the Berwyn Route 66 pieces around the city like the famous "spindle" and some of the route markers etc. If you're doing the Route 66 thing in IL, you don't want to miss this place, you just won't be there long. ALSO, there is no signage. It's a small space in a little strip mall and you have to look out for a couple of the 66 road signs in their windows. They have an awning and nothing on it. It's FREE so, I guess you can't expect too much, at least they ARE there. :)
