Schatzkammer
The "Residenz" is the former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria. Today it is open to visitors for its architecture, room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections. There are several separate museums inside the Residenz. You can buy a cumulative ticket, or separate tickets for each museum: I only visited the Schatzkammer (the Treasury): this review is related to this part only. Entrance to the Schatzkammer is from Max-Joseph-Platz 3. The Schatzkammer is a sequence of 10 halls, housing the jewels of the Wittelsbach dynasty. The collection spans 1000 years from the early Middle Ages to Neo-classicism. Royal insignia, crowns, swords, goblets, goldsmith works, rock crystal, ivory work, icons and numerous other treasures like precious tableware and toiletries are visible here.

Beautiful palace
Really beautiful palace. We could take photos. It's in marian platz. Since it's an indoor activity, we can visit if the weather is not favourable. There is a souvenir shop. They do not allow bulky hand bags inside the palace. We have to keep big bags outside. The whole visit with the audio guide will take more than 2 hours. It's a very big palace.

Fascinating and stunning
The Residenz's staggering opulence needs to be seen to be believed. It is massive and I would say rivals Buckingham Palace in terms of grandeur if much of it wasn't destroyed during the 2 World Wars. I was fascinated by the scale of the detail decor in every room-- a mix of baroque, gothic and other European styles that don't always work. A shame that unlike the British monarchy, the Bavarian dynasties aren't as well known and thus their stories don't hold the same enamour. Also like most tours of massive size, rooms all start looking the same after a while leading to some fatigue. It doesn't help that we went during winter and there wasn't good heating in the building. There are free audio guides and would recommend you do this over a couple of days at least and maybe in warmer weather.
