Like Walking Through a History Book

I am impressed that Germany deals so authentically and courageously with its history. To me, it is a sign of health and wanting to educate the next generation to avoid the evils of the past. Munich was the birthplace of National Socialism and walking through this museum develops this history chronologically from the start. The combination of photographs, documents, and artifacts accompanied by rich explanatory text enables one to get a deep grasp upon how the Nazi's took power and what they did with that power. The exhibition is truly of the highest quality and organization. A cautionary tale to say the least and may we all learn the crucial lessons here and combat authoritarianism and propaganda in our own lives today.

    Very comprehensive museum
I’m interested in history, I admit that I like seeing a good museum on a city break and I did study fascism pre University. This is a very good museum that makes a thorough and objective assessment of Nazism. It doesn’t ‘pull any punches’ - if it thinks citizens ignored warnings then it states that clearly. The detail included in this museum may be too much for the casual tourist - there’s a lot to read. But it has been brilliantly put together and it’s important that it exists - and on the site of the former Nazi HQ too.

    It all started in Munich
Just when you think you know pretty much everything about the rise of Hitler and the Nazis, this museum shows you things you never heard of. It's really about the 1920s and 30s and a younger Hitler. Posters and news articles show how the German people were slowly and steadily drawn into the Nazi way of thinking. It also shows how unlikely the perpetrators were. They seemed to be a bunch of ne'er-do-wells, uneducated nuts who ended up starting the biggest war in history. You'll learn a lot if you can get on one of the docent tours. Certainly the most enlightening experience of the growth of Nazism I have ever encountered.
