Pretty Building and Cultural Centre

Azkuna Zentroa is the centre for art and culture located right in the heart of Bilbao and is housed in one of the most emblematic buildings of the city, the former municipal wine exchange market. Refurbished and restored by Philippe Starck, Azkuna Zentroa has a diverse cultural programme where art, knowledge, design, science, new technologies and literature converge, as well as a varied physical activity offering. A multipurpose and contemporary centre where disciplines, contents and the general public are interrelated, which increases the cultural level of the general public and contributes to the enrichment of Bilbao and its internationalisation.

Good refurbishment of merchant’s wine exchange building
This is a good example of the refurbishment of the merchant’s wine exchange building. The columns on the ground floor are creatively decorated to add color to the expanse as you enter. The roof was rather barren with a few people sunbathing. The roof would make a good place for a restaurant. Overall, a good example of a contemporary design in an older architecturally significant building.

A must visit for practitioners of urban development
In spite of the fact that it was early in the day we still enjoyed the design of the lobby and the way Philip Stark made use of the wine storage building. The media center' the art shows and the surprising roof top spots center .A perfect way to combine preservation with current needs
