Musee National de Bamako, Bamako, Mali

4.0 (89 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Bamako Speciality Museums

Incontournable

This is a must visit museum when visiting Mali. It’s set inside a large leafy green garden with replicas of the most important monuments in Mali (separate entrance fee). The museum has three sections: with the textiles and mask and statues sections bring especially good. I spent about two hours taking in the displays (French only) and having a fresh fruit juice at the clean cafe. There is also a souvenir shop.

    Surprisingly good museum in Africa
We headed off to the Musee National du Mali that turned out to be an excellent museum with a great range of masks, musical instruments, ritual objects, textiles and pottery. The range of artifacts was very broad and comprehensive. If there is one thing not to miss in Bamako then I would say it is this museum.

    An excellent choice in Bamako
I did love the Museums in Mali. They are smaller and more interesting than ones in other countries. Mali has an very interesting history so it was great to see antique items from the various tribes of Mali. I love the Dogon, Bambara, and Dogon cultures of Mali so it was a real treat. Loved it:-)
