Black Forest Museum (Schwarzwaldmuseum), Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

More than I expected

From the outside the museum doesn’t look very large but they definitely use all available space. There are exhibits on the mining and cultural heritage of the area. Beyond that there are displays on clocks, organs and even the local radio manufacturers. It was a really interesting way to spend a few hours (2 tops) and everyone seemed to enjoy it. There are some devices that you can pay a few euro and they will play. My kids liked that. So if you have kids or just like things like that, have 1-2 coins on hand. You won’t be disappointed.

Brilliant Day out in the Black Forest
We were on a Rhine River cruise and one of our trips was the Black Forest Museum, our drive through the Black Forest was worth the trip on it's own. We didn't pay to go in as that was included in our trip. However a lot of the reviewers are moaning about the price, the price of 10€ seems cheap compared to the UK prices. There was lots to see and it's very well laid out, because of the nature of the old building you have to watch were your walking, trip hazards in places but that's the same in any middle aged museums. We watched a butter churning demonstration, and a tasting. Tasting fresh butter on fresh bread was a delight. We had a really good meal, hot food and / or salad - in their restaurant, very good quality plus Black Forest gateau for afters. There was also a demonstration on cuckoo clock carving. All in all a great day out. We would be happy to go again

Interesting but non-German speakers miss out a bit
We visited the museum on a wet day in Triberg. It’s a decent-sized museum, albeit with plenty of space to wander round the various rooms as you see fit. It had a good selection of props and items associated with the Black Forest including the local dress (all those red pom-pom hats!) and clocks of course. Downside was that there was relatively little in English (we do not speak German unfortunately). There was a small English language leaflet explaining some of the exhibits, but it did feel as though we were missing out on quite a bit compared to German speakers. The lady at reception said they are expecting to have the audio guide in English available soon. I think after that point it would be better value for money for non-German speakers.
