Spectacular

Unique insights into a monastery church and school Alpirsbach Monastery (Kloster Alpirsbach) is unique in many ways. It is one of the few surviving monasteries in southwestern Germany that was built in the spirit of the Hirsau Reforms. In addition, it offers fascinating insights into everyday life at a 16th century Boarding school.

Nice but didn't bowl me over
I love churches. I thought this had an expensive entrance fee for what was on offer. It was €6 and a further €3 if you want to take photos. We were handed a written guide in excellent English. However there was so much detail that you didn't stand a chance of reading it before the end of the trip. It needed some highlights on the brochure. The church has been refurbished and is immaculate. The decoration inside is very simple and austere but that is its charm. The cloisters were lovely. We were impressed by the huge new organ. There was a museum. All the signs were in German - I speak a little German but still found it difficult to get any understanding of what we were looking at. Lovely place but I question the price.

    beautiful peaceful and historic church
After you enjoy the gardens surrounding the monastery be sure to go inside and enjoy the peace and tranquillity which will soothe you especially on a hot day. You will easily be able to spend a couple of hours admiring the architecture and soaking up the atmosphere.
