Pumapungo Museo, Azuay Province, Ecuador
4.5 (510 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #8 in Cuenca Speciality Museums
Must-see Museum
The museum is free. I liked that we can learn about the history of Cuenca and the ethnic groups in Ecuador. Do have Google translate on your phone (non-Spanish speakers) because there isn't signs in English. The ruins are interesting to visit and the park is really beautiful. You can spend between 1.5-2 hours here if you go through everything.

Back to the Future
If you think you can do this museum in a couple of hours you are sadly mistaken. Plan for the better portion of the day at the very least. A few days would be more like the time you would need to fully appreciate and explore the history of the Ecuadorian people and culture. However, if all you can afford is a few hours, then it’s time well spent.

Worth a visit
It's really several small museums in one building. It's the place to go if you want to learn about the history of Cuenca from prehistory to the present. Informative about Ecuadorean cultures outside the Cuenca area as well. I also enjoyed the religious, photographic, and numismatic exhibits. Admission is free so you can do part of the museum, walk to a nearby cafe for lunch, and then come back and see the rest.
