Most beautiful spot on the island

There is a parking lot along the highway with gates indicating Lagoa do Canario. Don’t park there. Go through the gates and follow the gravel road to the end where there is another parking lot where you can see the stairs going up to Boca do Inferno. The walk is a bit steep but there are stairs and after a handrail. It takes about ten minutes to reach the end with its stunning views of the lakes of Sete Cidade. This is one of the most beautiful spots on Earth in my opinion, especially if you like the colour green.

    Manadatory Miradouro (viewpoint)
    I would echo the previous review. Entrance is on the right hand side, barely marked on the drive north past Lagoas Empadadas (see my other review). You will see a large car park used by hikers on the left opposite the entrance. Drive in and bear to the left. The lagoa is almost immediately on the left but is nothing special. Drive on for a few minutes and then park where there is an obvious miradouro sign on your left with the mandatory bbq area. Walk up a steepish incline to your left and a vista opens to give you a breathtaking view of Lagoa da Santiago in the centre, Lagoa Azul to the far right and Lagoa Rasa to the left. (see photo). It is astonishing to see the contrasting colours of the water green and blue. You feel on top of the island!

    This is Heaven on Earth!
    The entire São Miguel Island is really impressive, but this probably was my favorite spot from all the island. I think it is also called Miradouro da Grota do Inferno and after you find the Lagoa on the left side you should keep walking and go up on the stairs and that is where you are going to be blown away!!
