Excellent Jewish Museum

I concur fully with the reviews below, no need to repeat the excellent descriptions. We stopped here by car on our way to Zurich from our annual ski vacation in St. Anton am Arlberg - usually we take the Arlberg Express bus from/to Zurich airport so it would not have been possible to stop here. Lucky break that this year we had a car. We spent about 1.5 hours on the permanent exhibition. I found the English audio guide to be excellent both for the top-level thematic story but also for many of the individual items on display. I also agree that I felt particularly moved by the stories of individual people and families from Hohenem and the Voralberg region.

    Outstanding
I came to Hohenems especially to visit this museum, and it didn't disappoint. I spent a full day and a half here, and still didn't manage to see all of the exhibits. The temporary exhibit was wonderful, and the permanent collection, which is accompanied by a wonderful audio guide (available in English), is astonishingly detailed, providing a fascinating and moving account of this small town's Jewish past. Make sure to visit the beautiful cemetery and the old Mikveh (ritual bath) - the keys are available from the museum reception. (If you decide to go to the cemetery, I recommend taking a taxi and asking the driver to wait - it's right on the outskirts of the town, not easily accessible.)

    Fascinating learning experience!
I don't ordinarily go to museums, nor do I stay very long when I do but this museum captured my attention from the first exhibit. There is a self-guided tour with audio in at least 3 languages. I was compelled to listen to everything. I learned a lot about the local Jewish community right up to WWII as well as those who returned after. I was surprised to know there had been such a vibrant Jewish community in Vorarlberg. This museum is a must-visit for Jewish historians.
