Beautiful lake the showpiece of the country
The lake is quite stunning and the central part of Canberra is positioned around the waters. Everyone seems to be drawn to it with walkers, cyclists and electric scooters all making use of the tracks. We rode our bikes around the 28km circumference which took about 2.5 hrs and was a relatively easy ride for beginners with a couple slightly hilly sections at the far Western end of the lake but still doable. There is plenty of bird life and so many spots to stop and visit sights and galleries etc as well as plenty of spaces for picnics everywhere. A truly magnificent lake. We even saw the New Year’s Eve fireworks which were held on the lake and that too was spectacular.

Central to Canberra.
To get from any part of Canberra to another the lake is always visible. There are a number of bridges that transverse the lake and it contains a wide walking path along the shoreline. There are a number of fountains within and even some paddle boats to hire.

Very relaxing place to while away some hours
Every time we drove past the lake we would check to see if the 'fountain' was operating. Once it was we drove to free-park by the lake and just relaxed on the lawns watching people cycling and walking around the lake. Given Canberra is not exactly the most aesthetically pleasing place in the nation and other cities would better qualify as the nation's capital, this man-made lake is a nice place to while away the time. And the fountain is quite an impressive jet!
