A trip to the top sans skis.
Our local weekly trip was to Snowbowl Scenic Chairlift. It's about 30 minutes roundtrip. The Aspens are spectacular right now - bright gold, set amongst the dark green pine trees. We took the morning trip and enjoyed the cooler, clear weather. Altho the lift does not stop for embarcation or debarcation, the seating process is fully described by the workers at the lift itself. You're safely seated on a 5 person bench with padded seat and back and pull down the safety bar. The ride is stable with no swinging. The views coming down are spectacular! I would suggest bringing a fleece jacket and knit cap . I believe this fall event only lasts until 10/25 and buy tickets on line.

    Snowbowl has lost it's charm
The new ownership has made some really good on mountain updates, but the ticket pricing has become ridiculous. I certainly understand maximizing profits via revenue management, but at prices exceed that can exceed Aspen and Vail the value proposition is terrible. I've forgone multiple trips due to price. If you're going to charge the prices of world-class resorts you should have a world class product. However due to massive population growth in Phoenix and only two ski areas in the state, prices are sure to stay high. Depending on budget, I would highly recommend saving up for a destination trip and go to Wolf Creek, Taos, or Telluride instead. Also the pot smoking is out of control at Snowbowl. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured by a skier or boarder that is high. Definitely would not recommend this ski area for families.
