Wonderful

You can see the red magma (molten rock) at the top of this still active volcano.

    Trekking in National Park
There are numerous walking trails within Villarrica National Park which take you to different rims of the volcano that provide stunning views. Various routes allow for a variety of landscapes. Trail markings are minimal once set off, so best with a guide and a 4WD will give you better access to less crowded trails.

Incredible climb and Descent is so much fun
One of the best experiences we had in Chile. We climbed the Volcano under the very experienced guidance of Juan from Riverstonk found in Pucon. (They were very reasonably priced) He was really funny and very knowledgeable. He made us feel safe at all times. It is an amazing climb, can be difficult at times but it’s worth it when you get to the top and look into the crater. Unfortunately we did not see any magma but heard lots of activity which you could feel and smell too. (We were kitted out with gas masks and everything else you needed to make a successful ascent and descent). The views above the clouds are breathtaking. The descent is so much fun. We got to slide down the snow covered mountain on plastic slides. Again given all the equipment you would need to make this safe and to keep you as dry as possible. I would 100% recommended doing this if you have the time.
