First time in Armenia

It was our first time to visit Armenia and we did enjoy all the place we've been. People are very friendly and accommodating. This Stone Lake is a must see even if it is very far. We went to this place unfortunately, one of the staff from the hotel near the Stone Lake is very disrespectful. She didn't want us to get closer to the mountains since we are not eating in the hotel. As a resident of Armenia, i think you should be polite to all especially to tourist going to Stone Lake. If the attitude of the staff is like that, tourists will be disappointed going to that place.

Kari lich base camp for Aragats trekking.
Located at 3200 m , nice weather in the summer and good base for trekking in the Aragats. The way up passes through Beurakan an other villages. The road is OK for Armenia , eny car can go there safely. You can find places to sleep on the way. One fence hotel and guest houses. Just stop and ask the people around. There is a hotel on top , by the lake. We got an appartement with hot water and nice bed for 30USD. Breakfast is 4$pp. There is a restaurant on the water. Nice and reasonable food. You can also sleep in your tent. For trekking to the Aragats peaks (there are four of them) , you can go by yourself , uning map or GPS. Navagation is easy for someone with experience. Otherwise you can hire a guide. Nice for the hot summer.

At 11,000ft, this alpine lake is gorgeous! Not very far from Yerevan. Great hiking. Highly recommended!
You'll find Kari Lake in the Aragats Alpine State Sanctuary at the dead end of the H20 road from Byurakan. Kari Lake sits at an impressive elevation of nearly 11,000 ft. The road is paved all the way to Kari Lake, although it is quite steep and the pavement is torn up in a few places. It's well worth the drive, however, as Kari Lake is a splendid oasis. Along the shores of Kari Lake is the Soviet-era Aragats Cosmic Ray Research Station, a small restaurant, and even a small hotel. We didn't stay overnight, but we did go on a spectacular hike up another 1,000 ft towards the summit of Mt. Aragats. There are no pre-defined trails, but this is excellent hiking territory because you have clear sight lines nearly all the way back to the lake for the entirety of the hike. You can easily spend 3-4 hours hiking around the area, just enjoying the views. We visited in early-June and the entire area was still under quite a bit of snow. On the hike, we spent more time hiking across snow fields than rock. I bet this place is gorgeous in the late-summer and we'll surely return to see it then.
