lovely surprise

This Museum, located three blocks north of the San Pedro de Atacama Main Square, displays “The Memory of our Solar System” narrated by the authentic characters which participated on its formation: “The Meteorites”. Here, you will know, touch and feel the magnetism of legitimate sidereal rocks, from the “planetary embryos” –first solidified bodies in the nebula of dust and gas which originated our Solar System- up to evolved fragments of planetoids. Also, you will be brought back to the beginning of life through a group of meteorites carrying complex organic components, such as the nitrogenous basis of DNA, spreading as seeds of life all over the Cosmos. Finishing in the sensorial area, a personalized guidance service will give you the chance to touch these marvels with magnets, teaching you, in a practical manner, how to distinguish them from the terrestrial rocks, and turning you into a meteorites hunter. guide audio in: Deutsch, English, Español, Français and Portuguê

    Amazing
This was the most amazing place to visit. Located at the edge of town, in what looks like a giant yurt, the contents and quality of the exhibits and the story they tell is incredible, covering the origins of the solar system to recent finds of meteorites. Great use of technology and interactive systems, thoroughly recommended.

    Other Worldly Experience
This is a little gem which, although small, is effective. The display, in a geodesic dome, comprises a circle of displayed meterorites of different types and histories. A screen by each exhibit gives a video display and headphones have a commentary in a choice of languages. In the centre are cabinets with arm-holes enabling visitors to feel various meteorites, check their magnetism and feel the weight of those light enough. The Atacama is an ideal place for finding meteorites because there are ares with no vegetation or disturbance and the very low humidity prevents oxidation and erosion. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It is possible to buy various small examples found locally.
