Well kept museum and building

This small but well done museum was the former officers quarters in Nelsons Dockyard. You will find numerous aspects relating to naval history and naval life. There are models of ships, weapons, personal items. art work and even the carved ship figureheads. There is a small shop within the building to round it off.

    Small Interesting Historical Museum
My wife and I visited Nelson's Dockyard as part of our organised Island tour. Entrance to the site is via a ticket. The dockyard in English Harbour was opened to the public in the early sixties having been restored and is part of the National Park which includes Shirley Heights. Admiral Nelson lived here for three years in the late 18th Century. The Dockyard includes a large marina, two hotels, craft and food shops plus this interesting Admirals House Museum, originally the Naval Officers and Clerks Office dating back to 1855. The museum is set on two floors and is full of interesting historical information. Worth a visit.

This is an excellent museum worthy of a good long visit to garner all its history.
There are many displays and actual original items and they are clearly labelled and beautifully explained. If you like history allow a good hour. And you’ll still want to go back for more. It’s free. Definitely don’t miss it! Good coffee for those who flag is just round the corner at The Hot Spot.
