Great free stop

Amelia Island is very generous with free parking and facilities. It's a fun stop here for skate park viewing, mini golf (for a fee), and bathrooms, park, picnic, beach areas. Salt Life is here too. Great stop. We stayed near so we went a lot.

One of Our Local Beach Treasures
This was the first beach I discovered while building a home here for my family. I stayed and the Amelia Hotel at the Beach and often ate at Sliders before a short evening beach hike. It was a great way to end a day of construction meetings and runs to Jacksonville to meet with suppliers, etc. I still enjoy visiting this beach with my wife now that we've settled into the area.

    Summer of '42 Beach Lives!!!
Oldsters remember the '70's movie, "Summer of '42," that was set on a sleepy beach where the few visitors sat far apart and enjoyed solitude. This part of Fernandina Beach (FB) offers few amenities and little night life. HOWEVER, if you like sitting 100 yards from your nearest neighbor, on the beach, FB is for you! If you like a quiet stroll, being able to hear the waves instead of someone's music, FB is for you. Seashells are always plentiful, as is plenty of sand to enjoy. There are numerous beach access points and, unlike most Atlantic beaches, PARKING IS FREE! You'll find plenty of military personnel, and visitors from a variety of backgrounds. Lifeguards are present for most of the day. Bring lunch because the few restaurants that are walking distance, other than the DQ, are not really bathing suit friendly. Some people exercise and some fish in the surf. Some bring dogs. A couple of manageable probems at FB: You CAN drive onto the beach, but several people get bogged every day. Don't drive onto the beach unless you are a seasoned off-roader in a 4WD! Lastly, on this beach the restroom facilities are minimal, and need more cleaning than they get. But otherwise, FB Main Beach Park is a lovely beach. After numerous 250 mile trips from our home to GA and FL beaches, we rarely go elsewhere! You won't find love as in Summer of '42, but you'll find a lovely, uncrowded beach!
