It's Getting to Look a Lot Like Christmas... TOO EARLY!
While in town for my high school reunion, I drove around with my wife to show her my old "haunts." I recall the peaceful park next to my old high school, and I wanted to show it to my wife. Uh... Christmas on September 28th? Oh, wait... the local folks are just beginning to get "set up" for Christmas. As we drove the winding, peaceful road through the park, we could see how there must be a LOT of work that goes into the Christmas display tradition for this park. So... although it was a bit "unsettling" to see Charlie Brown's crew - and other festive holiday scenes in the "putting together stage" - I gotta believe this park makes for a REALLY nice drive-though in December, especially with the little ones' noses pressed against the car windows.

Christmas Light Display
I've only been to this park during the holidays for their Christmas light display. The entire park is set up, so you can drive through the park, and see the displays which are done by various groups that volunteer. The suggested donation is $7/car or $1/person for buses. There are lots of lights in the park, as well as a few displays. If you're in the area, I would suggest a visit. For the past few years that I've visited, I've always come during the week, and it's not crowed. The volunteers are very nice.

Christmas Wonderland
For the holidays, Rock Spring Park becomes a drive thru lights display, put together by volunteers known as the "Grandpa Gang". Admission is free with a suggested donation of $7 per car. There are a lot of lights, most in the trees, and other holiday decorations thoughout the park. There's a small area to get out and meet Santa as well as a few photo ops. The length of time to go through varies on when you visit. Weekends, of course, are much busier than the weekdays, and closer to Christmas will be busier. On an uncrowded night I would plan on thirty minutes or so to complete the drive, more if meeting Santa. We have taken our daughter to look at the lights for the past few years. We always enjoy the visit, the staff/volunteers are friendly, and they run a radio station playing holiday music and providing information. If you are close, or in the area, it is worth the visit.
