Interesting musical museum

This museum was included in our guided tour of the city. It is housed in an interesting building and has well laid out displays. It has both Kazakh and international exhibits. We enjoyed our visit much more than we thought we would and was a pleasant introduction to traditional instruments of the area which we heard played later in our restaurant at dinner. Worth a visit.

    Long title, great museum
    We stopped in at the Museum of Folks Music Instruments … Yihlasa in Almaty about a week ago and it was culturally awesome. Having been raised on a lot of Canadian folk music we have an appreciation for folk music worldwide. Although we have not had much exposure to the Kazakh folk music scene, the instruments are familiar, some more than others and the music and musicians are excellent. We have since put some of the Kazakh folk songs on our playlist during our drive around Kazakhstan. Make sure you find out ahead of time about the live performances as they are not to be missed.

    Not a standard museum
    This museum is located in the center of the city in the park. The collection of music instruments is unique as people loving local authentic music gathered it few decades. Sometimes, the administration hold concerts inside the museum and musicians play the instruments from the collection.
