D.A. Kunayev Museum, Almaty, Kazakhstan

4.5 (20 reviews) Friday: Spent Ranking #24 in Almaty Speciality Museums

Tranquility and peace at the museum

Good for discovering the place where lived the man who created the modern-day Almaty. As the now rulers are jealous of Kunaev's deeds, his museum is not very known, but it certainly deserves a visit. Honest and noble D.Kunayev (who was the head of the Kazakh government in 70-s and 80-s) left the remarkable architectural legacy in Almaty.

If you're curious about Almaty history - visit it!
This is a person that deeply influenced the modern Almaty view, so if you are curious about his personality - authentic apartmnt of previous ruler of Kazahstan is available on Wed and Sat. Museum has 2 parts: one is an official museum and second one is apartment itself. Also, highly recommended to have a guide. Kunayev was a modest and sincere man that ruled the country decently and initiated building of many wonderful landmarks of Almaty. The atmosphere is preserved wonderfully, all the furniture and details are still in there and you can actually feel the USSR being.
