Nice outing spot on man-made lake & dam
Abt 2 hrs drive from Almaty. Nice picnic spot with accommodation to stay. Lake is 180 km long. Great fish to eat caught frm lake. Water sports and swimming. Sufficient parking. About 40 min away is a place on a river where Budhist rock carvings are present. Also where movie Marco Polo was filmed. You need an SUV type or tough vehicle to reach this place as access is over unpaved roads. Great feeling of the open Steppes of Central Asia

On way to Altyn Emel
This area was on way to Altyn Emel National Park. Lots of unique looking casinos though there was not much rush anywhere. We were travelling on a Tuesday. Man made reservoir for short picnic from Almaty.

moving into 80ties
The water in the lake is warm and nice to swim. The surroundings are rather dissapointing. Kapchagay city is like lost vegas - many casinos lost in the middle of nowhere. Resort that we stayed proudly resembled 80ties since probably nothing ever changed from the 80ties including the towels. Yet it was quite an experience.
