    Fantastic zoo!
Easily one of the nicest zoos in Canada, if not in the Americas. This institution should be considered hands down one of Calgary's top attractions. The grounds are huge, you can easily spend a whole day checking out the various wings of the zoo. There are various biomes to explore, such as Canadian wilds, savanna, East Asia, etc. It is especially impressive that given Calgary's harsh winters, the Calgary zoo is able to upkeep such a large variety of species, including tropical and desert animals. Some amenities on site include restaurants, coffee and ice cream booths, a gift shop, and play areas for children. It has a huge parking lot that gets very busy, but if you prefer not to drive there it is also easily accessible by LRT. If you happen visit in December, the annual Zoolights festival is a magic event that shouldn't be missed!

Finally open after being closed for COVID! Still a great place to visit! But the pandas are gone...
Yay! They have reopened the Zoo, but have changed things around a bit to make for social distancing. They only allow admission only by advance online timed purchase, so there are no "walk up" entries. Most of the animal displays and the flower conservatory that are indoors are closed. The penguins, gorillas, hippos and giraffes can go outside their indoor displays if they choose, but the could also stay inside if they want. But there are many outdoor animal exhibits that are excellent. There's a one-way walking route through the park to accommodate social distancing. Not all the toilets are open, but enough for the number of people allowed. Only the Kitamba Cafe is open for food. So there is a reduced offering at the Zoo, but all the kids I saw were thoroughly entertained. Especially sad is that the Pandas are gone because they were unable to acquire enough bamboo due to all the cancelled flights.
