Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve Visitor Center, Alaska, United States

4.5 (121 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve Visitor Centers

Convenient Location

The visitors Center is located on the left along the Richardson Highway just outside of Glennallen on the way to Chitina if you are headed towards Valdez. It's convenient that you don't have to venture down into the depths of the park to get to the visitors center and get information. I recommend using Kennicott Shuttle to get you into the park. Save your own tires and wear and tear on your vehicle!

    Well worth a stop
Although the Park Service has inexplicably closed the visitor center while opening the theater and exhibit building we recommend spending an hour or two here. The film is more beautiful than informative, a gap nicely filled by the exhibits in a dedicated building next to the center. Don’t miss walking the nearby easy trail system. There are picnic tables and modern restrooms.

A great stop on the trip to Valdez
We stopped here while driving to Valdez - in part because we wanted a break. The Visitor Center was good. We did a short ranger walk that was informative and also watched the film about the park that plays every hour on the hour. There were some nice exhibits in both the Visitor Center main building and in a separate building. This place is a great break if you are driving through and a great introduction to an amazing park.
