Visit Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Information Center, Alaska, United States

4.5 (835 reviews) Spent Ranking #16 in Anchorage Visitor Centers

tourist info and photo-stop

The building is very photogenic. Great backdrop to a personalized Anchorage "postcard" or a few. The staff are very nice and helpful. They have info on Anchorage as well as other areas of Alaska especially those for which Anchorage is a jumping-off point (Denali, Kenai peninsula).

    A place for leisurely walk
During a walk in downtown Anchorage, this log cabin structure at a busy corner caught our attention. The log cabin structure is surrounded by beautiful landscape and sculptures. It also serves as the Visit Anchorage Visitor Information Center. The log cabin was closed to visitors, but people at the information center were helpful with travel information. Located outside the visitor center is the largest Jade stone on display. In the same block is the enjoyable park called Peratrovich Park. The wide sidewalks make for a pleasant walk. The park appears to be a gathering place as could be observed from the Reindeer Hot Dog stand doing busy business. The whole area is a nice place for a leisurely walk in downtown Anchorage.

    Nice stop.
The log cabin itself was impressive. There is a giant gem stone outside. Here is where you can book the Trolley Tour (book the 1.5 hour tour). But, we booked the Tour on-line, prior to here. Which I recommend as the tour we wanted was sold out by the time we got to the Visitors Center.
